Julie's Sign

Julie's Sign
No assisted suicide. No assisted elder abuse. Preserve choice for seniors.

Reality Check

If Massachusetts legalizes assisted suicide and euthanasia, some people’s lives will be ended without their consent, through insurance denials, medical mistakes and all the various forms of coercion and abuse. No safeguards have ever been enacted, or even proposed, that can prevent this outcome, which can never be undone.

Welcome!

In 2012, voters defeated Ballot Question 2 seeking to legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia in Massachusetts.

On June 30, 2016, Bill H.1991, seeking this same result, died in Committee.

On September 26, 2017, the Joint Committee on Public Health took testimony on similar bills with similar problems (H.1194 and S.1225).

Yet another set of bills was proposed in 2019 (H.1926 and S.1208).

On June 8, 2020, the Senate Committee on Public Health recommended that Senate Bill 2745 ought to pass, which did not happen.

On May 10, 2022, John B. Kelly issued a statement against yet another proposed bill, Senate Bill 1384.

Voices From Oregon Where Assisted Suicide is Legal

  • "I was afraid to leave my husband alone"
  • " If my doctor had believed in assisted suicide, I would be dead"
  • "In Oregon, the only thing my patient received was a lethal dose intended to kill him."
  • "The mere presence of legal assisted-suicide steers patients to suicide"
  • "He simply said 'Thank you.'"
